The Madison County Sheriff's Office announced the capture of an escaped inmate from Chattanooga, Tenn.

Johnny Lewis Payne was taken back into custody around 8 p.m. Monday night, after a chase and crash.

The state of Tennessee worked with the sheriff's office after finding information on Payne's possible whereabouts, after he escaped from a detention facility.

"Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Hubert Road and Narrow Lane with a possible address where the fugitive was hiding," the Madison County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "As deputies made their way to the residence, the fugitive left the residence in a vehicle."

The deputies chased Payne until he lost control of the vehicle and wrecked at the intersection of Charlie Patterson and Moores Mill Road, deputies said.

The sheriff's office posted information about the capture on Facebook.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the US Marshal’s Task Force responded.
