Alabama Democrats to open candidate qualifying on Dec. 6

The Alabama Democratic Party announced it will open candidate qualifying for the 2022 election cycle on Dec. 6, at 9 a.m.Candidate qualifying will close on Friday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m.
For the first time in Alabama Democratic Party history, those wishing to qualify as a Democrat can now complete the process online at www.aldemocrats.org.
Instructions for how to complete the process can also be found on the ADP website and interested parties can expect those instructions to appear on the website on Dec. 6, at the opening of qualifying.
Those who would like to submit paperwork in person may do so at the ADP Headquarters during hours of operation.

Persons running in either the Republican or Democratic Party primaries need to contact those parties about the fees associated with that office. Both parties charge a qualifying fee equal to two percent of the annual salary for that office.
1819 News contacted the Alabama Republican Party on Monday and an ALGOP spokesman confirmed that Republican qualifying will not open until Jan. 4, 2022. It will close on Jan 28.
Persons interested in running as an independent or minor party candidate have until May 24, 2022, at 5 p.m. to qualify, but qualifying as an independent or minor party candidate requires turning in ballot access signatures of registered voters in that district or county. The Alabama Secretary of State’s office told 1819 News that any independent or minor party candidates wishing to run for a statewide office as an independent or minor party candidate need to have 51,588 signatures of registered Alabama voters in order to qualify.
