The U.S. House Appropriations Committee has advanced $565 million in federal funding for the design and construction of U.S. Space Command's new headquarters at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.

The massive financial allocation is part of the Fiscal Year 2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies funding bill approved by the committee on Tuesday.

According to U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, $115 million of the funding has been set aside for design, while $450 million will be used to construct the facility.

"Establishing the Space Command headquarters at Redstone Arsenal is long overdue," said Strong. "This investment not only enhances our military strategy, but it also reinforces North Alabama's critical role in our national defense. This is a major step in the right direction to get shovels in the ground and deliver a permanent home for Space Command. There is no better place than Redstone Arsenal to carry out this critical defense mission."

"As global threats continue to evolve, space has become a critical frontier for national defense," added Strong. "Space Command plays a vital role in deterring aggression, protecting U.S. and allied interests, and ensuring the security of vital satellite and communication systems."

The FY 2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Bill is the first of twelve annual appropriations bills passed by the Appropriations Committee.
