Some say you can't make chicken salad out of chicken excrement, but the owners of the Flora-Bama sure did.
Mullet Toss, one of the largest events on Alabama's Gulf Coast, all started with an idea by owner Joe Gilchrist.
Gilchrist was out west when he witnessed the cow chip throw. For generations, communities have gathered in the West and the Midwest for cow chip throw events. It works by competing to throw dried cow dung.
When Gilchrist returned home, he and owner Pat McClellan came up with the idea to do the same thing, but with mullet. That was 39 years ago.
Mullet fish are ray-finned fish that live near shore in salt and fresh water. There is a high population of mullet along the Gulf Coast.

This weekend, around 30,000 people are expected to join the interstate competition and beach party. Many are lining up to throw a dead fish the farthest. Some of the proceeds will be donated to local charities, and the remaining decomposing fish carcasses will be given to zoo animals.
