The humane shelter in Alabama’s capital city is asking for the public’s help, as they are overflowing with 392 dogs and cats.
To help those wanting to adopt, the shelter has dropped its adoption fee for cats by half to $50.
There appear to be three reasons for the recent surge in stray animals at the Montgomery shelter:
The failure of people to spay or neuter their animals.
The high cost of pet food.
The high cost of veterinary care and medicine.
Since these conditions are expected to continue, the need for adoptions will likely remain high. Adverse economic conditions have begun to strongly affect pet owners and thus fill the shelters.
The Montgomery Animal Shelter is at 1150 John Overton Drive.
