No. 16 Alabama added another victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating former assistant coach Antoine Pettway 92-81 in the Rocket City Classic in Huntsville.

The Crimson Tide took a 26-point lead into halftime, and while the Owls cut the lead to as small as 11, the game was never in question.

Alabama is now 9-3 on the season with one more non-conference game left on the schedule.

Here are a few takeaways from the game.

  1. Sherrell Shines in Huntsville

Forward Aiden Sherrell had one of his best games yet in an Alabama uniform. Sherrell was efficient from the floor, shooting 80% and went a perfect 1-for-1 from behind the arc as well. The sophomore led all scorers with a game-high 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds on Sunday.

  1. Won the Turnover Battle

Alabama did an excellent job winning the turnover battle on Sunday. While not perfect, the Crimson Tide turned the ball over eight times but forced 16 turnovers from the opponent. They then turned those 16 turnovers into 22 points to just 10 for the Owls. Labaron Philon led the team with four steals in his 27 minutes of action.

  1. Rough Second Half

The first half went exactly how Alabama wanted it to, and the Tide took a comfortable 26-point lead at the break. The second half, however, did not go as planned. Alabama struggled to hit shots while Kennesaw St.’s shots began to fall. The Crimson Tide shot just 38% from the field in the second half, and the Owls cut the lead down to 11, but there was never any doubt of the final outcome.

  1. Big Game From the Backcourt

The dynamic duo of guards Labaron Philon and Aden Holloway did what they do best on Sunday, and that’s carrying the Crimson Tide offense. While Sherrell had a breakout game of 21 points to lead the team, Philon and Holloway contributed 17 points each to help lead Alabama to another non-conference victory.

Alabama will host Yale on Monday, December 29, at 7 p.m. The game can be streamed on SEC Network+.
