Just a week after a disappointing loss at home to No. 16 Ole Miss, No. 4 Alabama welcomed a Vanderbilt squad looking for its second top-10 upset in less than a week and took care of business 103-87.
The Commodores were hot off an upset win over No. 6 Tennessee over the weekend and looking to add another, but every time they got within striking distance, the Crimson Tide responded with a run to put the game out of reach.
Here are a few takeaways from the game.
Holloway Hot Off the Bench
Aden Holloway has been a consistent spark off the Alabama bench, but on Tuesday night, he was on a different level. Holloway found his three point stroke, connecting on four of his six three point attempts. Holloway finished tied for a game-high 22 points.
Career Night For Dioubate
Coming off a big blue-collar game against Kentucky, Mo Dioubate had a career night and easily his best performance at Alabama. Dioubate is more known for his blue-collar plays, but on Tuesday, he recorded a double-double. He pulled down 10 rebounds, but his most impressive stat was his career-high 22 points, which tied him with Holloway for the game-high.
Tide Minimize Turnovers
Nate Oats warned his players earlier in the week about Vanderbilt’s feisty defense. Vanderbilt is one of the best teams in the nation at forcing turnovers and producing points off turnovers. Alabama minimized mistakes, which kept the flow of its offense throughout the game. The Crimson Tide limited their turnovers to just 11 and only gave up eight points off turnovers.
Getting to the Line
Alabama didn’t attempt as many three pointers as usual, but the Tide didn’t have to. They utilized driving the lane to get easy baskets as well as drawing fouls. Alabama got to the free throw line 34 times against Vanderbilt and scored 23 points from the line.
Alabama will host LSU on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
