Far from its best performance of the season, No. 4 Alabama battled for 40 minutes against LSU and won the game on Saturday 80-73.
The Crimson Tide showed resilience, competing fiercely in front of the home crowd as their leading scorer held scoreless on the night.
Here are a few takeaways from the game.
Sears Held Scoreless
Saturday just wasn’t Mark Sears’ night. The SEC’s leading scorer at 19 points per game couldn’t buy a bucket and was held scoreless for the second time this season. Sears went 0-5 from the field and 0-2 from behind the arc. With three seconds left in the first half, Sears was subbed out of the game and sat on the bench for the remainder of the game.
Youngblood Finding His Groove
Chris Youngblood missed the first half of the season recovering from injury and has finally started to find his rhythm. The USF transfer scored 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks in his first start of his Alabama career.
Holloway Provides Spark Off the Bench
Once again, Aden Holloway shined coming off the bench for the Crimson Tide. Holloway led Alabama in scoring with 19 points, connecting on three shots from behind the arc. With Sears held scoreless, Holloway had to pick up his share of the scoring. Holloway is coming off a 22-point game against Vanderbilt earlier in the week.
Struggling on the Glass Again
Alabama has struggled to keep the opponent off the offensive glass for two games in a row. The Crimson Tide gave up 20 offensive rebounds earlier in the week against Vanderbilt and had trouble with LSU on Saturday. LSU had 13 offensive rebounds in the first half, just two rebounds off its season-high 15. The Tigers finished with 17 offensive rebounds, leading to 14 second-chance points.
Alabama will travel to Mississippi State on Wednesday at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
