No. 8 Alabama rolled past Maryland 105-72 in its third game of the Players Era Festival.
The Crimson Tide grabbed a 2-0 lead 16 seconds into the game and never looked back. Alabama improves to 5-2 on the year and finishes 2-1 in the Players Era Festival, recording wins over UNLV and Maryland and its lone loss to Gonzaga.
Here are a few takeaways from the game.
- Bama’s Limited Bench Shines
With Keitenn Bristow out after suffering a leg injury in the previous game, Alabama was down to just nine scholarship players for the final game of the Players Era Festival. All nine players saw action, and the four coming off the bench did their part in helping the Crimson Tide to victory. Alabama’s bench outscored the Maryland bench 36-22, led by Davion Hannah’s 12-point performance off the bench.
- Strong First Half
Alabama picked up right where they left off from last night’s game and stayed hot. The Crimson Tide outscored Maryland 49-29 in the first 20 minutes of the game by way of the three-pointer. Alabama sank nine first-half threes to put them comfortably ahead going into halftime. The Crimson Tide was led by guards Aden Holloway and Labaron Philon with 11 first-half points apiece.
- A First for Holloway
Aden Holloway recorded the first double-double of his career, finishing with 17 points and 10 assists. The 17 points were good for the second-highest on the team, while his 10 assists were a game high. Holloway also pulled down three rebounds.
- Team Effort
All 10 Crimson Tide players who saw action recorded at least one point, while seven finished in double figures. Labaron Philon led all Alabama scorers with 20 points. Philon also recorded six assists and four rebounds. Big man Aiden Sherrell came up one rebound short of a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds and 11 points.
Alabama will host Clemson on Wednesday, December 3, at 6 p.m. as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
