No. 4 Alabama grinded out a 20-9 win over LSU on Saturday to extend its season win streak to eight and home win streak to 17 straight.
With the win, the Crimson Tide move to 8-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the SEC.
Here are a few takeaways from the game.
- Turnover Machine
Alabama’s defense has been one of the most successful teams in the country in forcing turnovers. On Saturday, the defense continued to be opportunistic, forcing three fumbles and successfully recovering two of them. The Crimson Tide improved their turnovers gained for the season to 16 with the two successful fumble recoveries. Alabama converted the first turnover into three point,s and the second came late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
- Perfectly Executed One-Minute Offense
To close out the half, Alabama ran its one-minute offense to perfection. With no timeouts and only 56 seconds left in the half, Ty Simpson marched the Crimson Tide down the field 66 yards in 34 seconds for a touchdown. After an incomplete pass to start the drive, Simpson connected with Lotzeir Brooks for 53 yards and finished the drive with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Williams.
- Bend But Don’t Break
The Alabama defense allowed LSU to have a few drives that tallied good yardage, but the results were not what the Tigers wanted. The Crimson Tide defense kept the ball in front of them and tightened up inside the red zone, limiting successful drives for LSU. Twice LSU got inside the 1,0 and twice Alabama forced field goals. In four red zone possessions, Alabama forced four field goal attempts and allowed zero touchdowns.
- Deep Ball Success
Coming into the game, Simpson has had some struggles connecting on the deep ball. During the off week, Alabama made it a priority to put in extra work on getting more accurate with the deep ball. The deep passing game wasn’t perfect, but the Crimson Tide were able to complete four passes for over 30 yards.
- Pierre Provides Pressure
Yhonzae Pierre is slowly becoming Alabama’s best pass rusher. On Saturday, Pierre had another multi-sack game. Pierre recorded two sack,s with his second sack of the night resulting in a fumble and recovery for the Crimson Tide. The turnover forced with just a bit over three minutes left in the game shut the door of any potential comeback for LSU.
Alabama will host Oklahoma next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ABC.
