With America 250 celebratory events now in full swing across the state, Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) chairman Scott Stadthagen discussed the importance of fully appreciating those who serve and America's founding generation on a recent broadcast of Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5's "The Jeff Poor Show."
"All of us take our freedoms for granted, and the privileges that our armed forces provide for us every single day as United States citizens," Stadthagen said. "There are people who are literally watching our backs 24/7 to make sure we're safe, make sure we live in a free country."
The chairman noted the level of sacrifice required to ensure freedom in America.
"It's hard for us because we've never experienced it, or we've never seen it. There's a lot of blood and sacrifice that go into how we get to live every single day," noted Stadthagen. "We get to pick our religion, we get to vote for the candidates we want to vote for, we get to live in a country that is free, and it's because of the fruits of their labor we get to do that and also the men and women who were so strong 250 years ago."
According to Stadthagen, citizens of the United States should truly appreciate and understand the blessing of being American.
"It's great to be American, and I think that I try to remind my daughter of that. She's 13, and I try to tell her how awesome it is to be an American, and why we celebrate the Fourth of July. We need to take knowledge of that," added Stadthagen.
