The popular metal band Pantera has announced the cancellation of several shows, including a scheduled September performance in Birmingham, stating that band members needed time to mourn the death of rock legend and friend of the band, Ozzy Osbourne.
Osbourne, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer as a solo artist and also the lead singer of the Hall of Fame band Black Sabbath, died on July 22, after years of battling Parkinson’s disease.
Pantera, the equally legendary group in the world of metal, announced that it would be canceling several shows, including a planned September 8 show in Birmingham, as bandmates needed “time and space to grieve.”
Pantera re-formed its band lineup in 2022 for its first tour after a long hiatus. The new Guitarist, Zakk Wylde, served as Ozzy Osbourne's lead guitarist across three main periods: from 1987 to 1995, 2001 to 2009 and 2017 to 2025. He affectionately refers to Osbourne and his wife, Sharon, as “The old man” and “Mom.”
“Ozzy wasn’t just a legend who shaped the very foundation of heavy metal and inspired Pantera from the beginning — he was family,” the band wrote in a social media post. “A mentor, a brother, and a constant presence in our lives both on and off the stage. The bond we shared with him ran far deeper than music.
“In light of this profound loss, we need time and space to grieve — to be with our families, our crew, and each other as we process and honor the life of someone who meant so much to us.”
The band canceled five dates in total, providing fans with guidance on how their tickets would be refunded.
