Attorney General Steve Marshall's campaign for U.S. Senate picked up an endorsement on Thursday from pastor Tony Perkins.

Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, cited Marshall's record of "protecting the unborn, fighting for religious liberty, protecting children from the harms of dangerous and irreversible gender transition procedures for minors, and more" as Alabama's top law enforcement official.

"Few can match your record protecting the unborn, fighting for religious liberty, protecting children from the harms of dangerous and irreversible gender transition procedures for minors, and more," Perkins wrote in a letter to Marshall. "You have truly been a standard bearer of faith, family, and freedom, it is no wonder you have led multiple coalitions of Attorneys General to stand up against the woke agenda of the Biden-years."

He continued, "As the state’s top law enforcement official, you’ve overseen a decline in crime rates in Alabama, stood with Alabama’s police officers, and called out lawlessness across the country. As a former police officer, I know your leadership is appreciated in the law enforcement community and needed in the Senate."

"There is no doubt our country is going through a difficult time right now. With challenges mounting at home and abroad it is crucial the American people have Senators with backbone and conviction to lead us through these tumultuous times. You are a tried-and-true leader the people of Alabama can depend on for the battles ahead," Perkins concluded.

In a statement provided to 1819 News, Marshall said he was "honored" to have the endorsement.

"I’m honored to have Tony Perkins’ endorsement in my race for U.S. Senate," Marshall stated. "Tony’s principled conservative leadership and steadfast commitment to doing what’s right, especially when it isn’t easy, reflect the kind of values our country needs now more than ever."

"This support underscores the broad coalition of conservatives and leaders of faith that have joined our campaign ready to stand up against the radical left and the status quo in Washington," he added.
