U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) called the Iranian government's rejection of President Donald Trump's recently proposed 15-point peace plan an "absolute joke" during a call with reporters on Wednesday.

Iran's official repudiation, issued shortly before the press call, was accompanied by the country's own list of demands for ending the conflict, including the U.S. ceding control of the Strait of Hormuz to the Iranian regime and closure of all U.S. bases in the Gulf region.

"They're not playing apples to apples here. They're running scared," said Tuberville. "There's zero world where President Trump is going to agree to close our military bases in the Gulf or to allow Iran to rebuild their missile program. They're not going to happen. They can forget this. President Trump is negotiator in chief, and that is what he does best. I'm confident that President Trump will get a deal that is a win for the American people and all the neighbors in the Middle East."

The lawmaker cited the rising price of gas due to the conflict in Iran, noting that current fuel costs remain lower than during the Obama and Biden administrations.

"So hopefully we can wrap this up very soon. This is something that's obviously causing heartache around the world with the gas prices, but always remember, the prices that we have right now are nothing compared to Joe Biden's and Barack Obama's," argued Tuberville. "They want to compare us to the Democrats. President Trump is doing a much better job."

Tuberville added, "It's really an embarrassment to Barack Obama and Joe Biden that we're in a war and we still have lower gas prices than they had when they were in office."
