Department of Justice special counsel Jack Smith filed a revised indictment on Tuesday in the federal government’s case against former President Donald Trump.
A hearing in the case is scheduled for September 5, roughly two months before the November election. The federal government alleges Trump undertook a criminal scheme to overturn the 2020 election. Trump pleaded not guilty to a previous indictment.
U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) called the new indictment “election interference, plain and simple.”
U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) said the new indictment was an example of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris weaponizing the Justice Department.
