Multiple Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) employees and contractors have been arrested in recent days in connection with drug trafficking and possession.

On Tuesday, ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD), assisted by K9 and Security Threat Group personnel, apprehended Alesia Jarett, a correctional security guard at Elmore Correctional Facility, on charges related to narcotics trafficking.

Jarett, who was under investigation for suspected drug smuggling into the facility, was found in possession of approximately 250 grams of methamphetamine. She faces charges including conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, use of position for personal gain and promoting prison contraband.

In Bullock County, the LESD conducted a vehicle checkpoint near the Bullock Correctional Facility. Law enforcement stopped a vehicle for allegedly trying to evade the checkpoint, discovering approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine, 30 grams of marijuana and five grams of cocaine.

Desiree Wells, a contract employee providing health care services at Bullock Correctional Facility, and Quincy Martin, the driver of the vehicle, were both arrested and transported to the Bullock County Detention Facility.

Wells faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Martin faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
