The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) reported multiple arrests at prison facilities across the state over the weekend, leading to several contraband arrests and the confiscation of thousands of dollars in drugs, phones and other contraband.
At Ventress Correctional Facility in Clayton, a Barbour County Sheriff's deputy noticed a suspicious package inside the perimeter fence and reported it to an ADOC K-9 unit. Soon after, a trespasser was reported, and K-9 deployed tracking dogs in the area.
The dogs led police to a former ADOC inmate identified as Jeffery Searight. He was arrested and charged with drug trafficking fentanyl, possession of marijuana, and promoting prison contraband.
Police confiscated 582 grams of marijuana, 38 grams of brown tar-like substance that tested positive for Fentanyl, eight cell phones and a cell phone adapter cable.
Searight is the seventh person arrested and charged with attempting to introduce contraband into Ventress in a 30-day period.
In Montgomery, an ADOC investigation led to the arrest of a father-son duo in an early-morning raid.
ADOC's Narcotics and Law Enforcement Services Divisions and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) SWAT executed a residential search warrant at a residence on Lindsey Lane in Montgomery.
Agents searched the residence and discovered approximately 227 grams of amphetamines, one stolen handgun, a digital scale and "other contraband."
Jeremy Beamon, Sr., was arrested on a warrant through ADOC out of Escambia County on a charge of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and transported to the Escambia County Jail. His son, Jeremy Beamon, Jr., was also arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. He was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Center.
ADOC stated that the case is pending and that additional charges are possible.
"ADOC is proud of its law enforcement partnerships that assist with combating contraband in the state's correctional facilities," ADOC Commissioner Greg Lovelace said.
