The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the conviction of a Thomasville man who shot and killed another man in 2021.

Attorney General Steve Marshall said Jeremiah Wesley Irvin, 25, shot Fredrick Wright after a fight at a Clarke County gas station. Wright was Irvin’s wife’s stepfather.

Marshall said the evidence showed the two argued weeks before the murder then again on February 2, 2021.

“At trial, evidence was presented that showed Irvin had told a witness that he had gotten into an argument with someone at a gas station and was acting in an agitated manner,” Marshall said. “The witness later heard gunshots shortly afterwards when Irvin left the residence.”

Wright was found dead on his front porch. There were no witnesses.

Marshall said Irvin also attempted to influence a witness.

Irvin was sentenced to 40 years in prison. He appealed the conviction but was unsuccessful.
