President Donald Trump is taking a “no-nonsense approach” to Washington, D.C. law and order similar to recent policing efforts by state and local law enforcement in Montgomery, according to Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall.
Trump said on Monday he would federalize the D.C. police department and deploy the National Guard to the area.
The Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit began operating in Montgomery in June 2024. It was touted as a joint effort by Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) secretary Hal Taylor, Marshall, Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham and Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys. The task force involves collaborative efforts from multiple state and local law enforcement agencies to crack down on crime in Montgomery.
“Montgomery’s MACS unit shows what happens when leaders get tough on crime: safer streets and stronger communities. Now President Trump is taking that same no-nonsense approach to D.C. law & order,” Marshall said on X.
Governor Kay Ivey said, “Public safety in Alabama begins and ends with our Capital City which is why we took an aggressive approach with our MACS Unit.”
