GUNTERSVILLE — With Election Day fast approaching, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is more confident than ever about a Donald Trump victory given the current political climate's similarities to the pre-Reagan 1980s.

"I want to deliver a little bit of good news, which is we're going to win the election in 13 days," Marshall said Wednesday at a Marshall County Republican Women's club meeting.

He asked the audience, which was also there to celebrate Marshall County Circuit Judge Tim Riley's retirement if they ever felt like they were living in "unprecedented times" due to the nation's current degraded state under the Biden administration.

"The truth is, this is a lot like the 1980s, right? Think about the coincidences that exist, the similarities," Marshall said. "You had runaway inflation. You had a foreign country that didn't respect the power of this nation and you had a president who, at that time, was running for reelection who was completely rudderless as it related to leadership, and yet this country heard the vision and the optimism of Ronald Reagan who talked about the greatness that we could have, to be that shining city on a hill, and they embraced that optimism about what America could be in order to vote him into office. I think we're in that same spot."

Marshall said there has been a concerted effort to "have eyes" on swing states to ensure election integrity and address any problems that may arise.

"I think the polls are going in the right direction. Everything that I'm hearing is extremely positive… We're far more prepared than we were in 2020."
