Following the third assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, Alabama Attorney General and GOP candidate for U.S. Senate Steve Marshall expressed his frustration with continued rhetoric from Democratic leadership casting the President as both a dictator and fascist.

"You can't describe somebody as an existential threat to democracy and not expect others to be motivated to deal with it with violence," Marshall noted during Monday's broadcast of "Alabama's Morning News with JT." "We've seen the polling, which many who identify themselves as extremely liberal almost justify violence for their political gains. That can't be the dynamic. That cannot be the norm for us in this society."

Marshall said disagreements between elected officials should not devolve into demonization.

"We're never going to completely agree on all issues, whether even within party or among parties. But the fact that you can disagree around policy, the fact that you can have leadership that's attempting to lead, consistent with how their party is dictating, doesn't mean that you demonize the other individual. Your job is to work harder to convince the people of this country or your state that, in fact, your policy positions are right.”

He added, "Right now, the left fails to do that miserably."

The suspect in the failed assassination attempt has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, Calif.
