On Monday, Attorney General Steve Marshall announced restraining orders and search warrants had been obtained against five illegal gambling facilities in Selma.
According to the release, pursuant to the temporary restraining orders (TROs), "the facilities must cease all operations, the property cannot be used or accessed and there can be no further financial transactions connected with the facility or those operating the facility until further orders from the Circuit Court of Dallas County."
"These facilities are operating with complete disregard to Alabama law," Marshall said in a statement. "I applaud Dallas County Sheriff Granthum's dedication to combat this blight, and willingness to invite our team to assist in addressing these criminal enterprises. The law is clear; gambling is illegal in Alabama and the Attorney General's Office will continue to enforce the laws of this state."
Marshall also thanked the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Dallas County Sheriff's Office and the Dallas County District Attorney's Office "for their assistance and support" on this operation.
The release named Joker 777 in the Selma Mall, Mini Bingo on Dallas Avenue, Selma Charity Bingo on State Highway 14, Selma Bingo on Hickory Road and Lucky Duck on U.S. Highway 80 where the TROs were executed.
Only a search warrant on the matter was executed at a mobile home park on Lewis Street in Selma.
