Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall recently joined a 16-state coalition in support of President Donald Trump’s bombings of drug cartel boats to combat the flow of drugs into the United States.

The attorneys general believe that Trump is acting within his constitutional authority as Commander-in-Chief to protect the United States and its citizens. The attorneys general are also urging Congress to take action on the issue.

“As a nation, we are at a critical point where bold and decisive action is necessary to stop the relentless flow of illegal drugs brought in by dangerous cartels. President Trump’s commitment to protecting Americans means peace through strength,” Marshall said. “I am extremely proud of the President for taking a strong stand and targeting cartel operations. This is exactly the kind of strategic reforms our country deserves.”

In a letter sent to Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, the attorneys general note that in FY 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized nearly 22,000 lbs. of cartel-smuggled fentanyl crossing into the United States, enough to kill the entire American population 14 times over. In fact, the number of Americans who have died from fentanyl is now comparable to the total U.S. casualties in World War II.

Joining Alabama in this Georgia-led brief are attorneys general from Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and West Virginia.
