On Monday, a group of Republican senators announced the formation of a task force to combat the fraudulent misuse of federal funding.
According to Fox News, the panel, which will be divided into three subcommittees, consists of seven conservative lawmakers from the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
Among the group is Alabama's U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), who has been selected to co-lead the subcommittee investigating fraud in education.
“A little more than a year ago, the American people overwhelmingly voted for President Trump’s agenda to cut out waste, fraud, and abuse from our government,” said Tuberville. “After losing more than 19 BILLION American taxpayer dollars under Tim Walz’s watch to fake Somalian daycares, it’s evident that there’s still work to be done."
"We must aggressively tackle this issue from all sides to ensure corrupt politicians never misuse Americans’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars again," he added.
Tuberville pledged that "every cent" vetted by his subcommittee will be used for its true and specified purpose.
"As Chairman of the HELP Subcommittee on Children and the American Family, I’m proud to co-lead this task force alongside Sen. Husted to make sure every cent allocated for American education reaches its intended purpose," Tuberville added.
Tuberville also said the HELP Committee has launched an online portal for Americans to report fraud involving taxpayer dollars.
The seven-member panel, led by HELP Committee chair Bill Cassidy (R-La.) also consists of U.S. Sens. Ashley Moody ( R-Fla.) Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Jon Husted (R-Ohio), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.).
