The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) will meet in Montgomery with private schools on Wednesday.

According to multiple sources, the AHSAA will meet with private schools from across the state. The reason behind the meeting hasn’t been publicly disclosed.

The AHSAA is currently being sued by Governor Kay Ivey and House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) over their rule requiring transfer students using CHOOSE Act funds to sit out from athletics for a year. A Montgomery County Circuit Court judge granted a temporary restraining order against the AHSAA on the issue recently, allowing affected CHOOSE Act students to participate in sports while the lawsuit proceeds.

However, attorneys for the AHSAA recently filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. That motion has yet to be ruled on.

Multiple lawmakers have said they expect to file AHSAA-related legislation in the 2026 session.
