The Moody High School football program has been fined and placed on probation for "flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct" following its state football championship game earlier this month.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) announced on Tuesday that four Moody assistant football coaches, the now-former head football coach, Jake Ganus, and 10 players involved in a postgame incident in which players and staff were seen smoking cigars in the Protective Stadium locker room with city officials, were suspended from the 2026 spring and fall jamboree and first regular-season game of 2026.

"The flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct occurred following Moody High School’s state football championship game at the Super 7 Class 5A State Finals at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium," the AHSAA wrote. "Moody High School self-reported the flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct following its own investigation.

The punishment will follow any players or coaches who leave Moody for another school, including Ganus, who is set to take the same position at Pell City High School.

"For the players who have no football eligibility remaining, an additional fine of $250 is being assessed per player,” the AHSAA noted. “If the coaches or players are no longer at Moody High School next season, the suspension will be assessed at the schools they are attending.”

Moody High School will be responsible for the cost of repairing any damage to the Protective Stadium dressing room, according to the ASHAA.

A now-deleted post from the Moody Football X account after the game read, "Sorry about the locker room celebration @UAB_FB - Send bill to City of Moody!"
