Lieutenant Gov. Will Ainsworth hopes the Tennessee Supreme Court case on a law banning "gender-affirming care" for minors will result in a victory for both Tennessee and Alabama.
In reaction to American Civil Liberties Union attorney Chase Strangio saying on CNN that children as young as two years old have suffered because they were unable to transition medically, Ainsworth posted on X that he would do "everything in my power to stop this and to protect children from these sick people."
"This is absolutely insane," Ainsworth posted on X. "I will do everything in my power to stop this and to protect children from these sick people. This is child abuse, and they deserve prison time for what they are doing to these children."

Ainsworth told 1819 News the outcome of the Tennessee case would likely determine the future of Alabama's ban on "gender-bending medical procedures."
"Children are too young, too immature, and too unaware of the realities of life to make decisions about having surgery or hormone treatments that will scar them for life and usually prevent them from having children of their own as adults," Ainsworth said.
"The idea promoted by some extremists that children know their 'true' gender or sex as toddlers is the very definition of insanity and I think that anyone who seriously promotes that concept should be considered nuttier than a Christmas fruitcake," he added.
Ainsworth said commonsense Alabamians are joining him in prayer over the matter.
"In some cases, I believe young people are pushed, prodded, and urged to have so-called gender-affirming surgeries and treatments by adults and others who are promoting a radical social ideology rather than looking out for children's best interests," he said. "The truth is simple - men are born men, women are born women, and we don't get to make that choice because God already made it for us."
