Alabama A&M advanced in the SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament with a 77-63 victory over Southern in a quarterfinal game at Bartow Arena.

Junior Messiah Thompson was sensational for the Bulldogs. He had 27 points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds. He was 8 of 13 overall from the field, 5 of 9 on 3-pointers and 6 of 8 from the free-throw line.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-13 lead and led 36-23 at halftime. Alabama A&M remained in control throughout the second half. Garrett Hicks had 14 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists for the Bulldogs.

Alabama A&M advances to the tournament semifinals on Friday at 2 p.m. Texas Southern. Alabama A&M lost to Texas Southern, 70-59, on Jan. 21 on the Bulldogs' home floor. That was the only regular-season meeting between the teams.
