Thirty-two kindergarten through 12th-grade students across Alabama were honored Wednesday at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival theater in Montgomery.

They were the winners from a statewide visual arts competition.

The 2025 Annual State Superintendent’s Visual Arts Exhibit showcased award-winning visual arts skills. 32 students from across the state were recognized for various art pieces, ranging from self-portraits to watercolor paintings. The ceremony was conducted by the State Superintendent and the State Board of Education.

The artwork had been on display at the Alabama state capitol for two months after the legislature went into session in February.

The selection process for the winners started at the school district level. Every school system and charter school could submit up to 20 works of art, 10 works in elementary and 10 works in secondary. The winning artwork was then sent to the capitol.

Wednesday, the 32 winners were awarded in Montgomery. The students, families, teachers and local school superintendents were called forward to receive the awards.

The overall winners were a Best in Show for elementary schools and a Best in Show for secondary schools.

The elementary school Best in Show is Raylin Anderson of Rockwell Elementary School in Baldwin County.
