In just the third year under head coach Rob Vaughn, Alabama baseball will host a regional in the NCAA Tournament.
Despite an early exit at the hands of Florida in the SEC tournament last week, Alabama was considered by the selection committee as one of the top teams in the country. Entering Monday’s tournament selection, Alabama carried the nation’s second-toughest schedule and was ranked No. 6 in adjusted RPI.
On Sunday night, the Crimson Tide were announced as a regional host site for the first time since 2023. When the full bracket was released on Monday afternoon, Alabama learned that it received the No. 7 overall seed in the tournament.
Alabama will begin play in the Tuscaloosa Regional on Friday at 6 p.m. against Alabama State. The other two teams in the regional, Oklahoma State and USC Upstate, will square off at 1 p.m. before the Crimson Tide takes the field later in the evening.
By securing the No. 7 national seed, the Crimson Tide have also put themselves in line to host a Super Regional at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, provided they win this weekend's bracket. If they advance, it will mark the first time Tuscaloosa has hosted the Super Regional round since 2006.
If the Crimson Tide are fortunate to advance past the regionals, Alabama would host a Super Regional against the winner of the Tallahassee Regional, hosted by the No. 10 seed Florida State.
Other local teams to make the NCAA Tournament, joining Alabama and Alabama State, include Auburn, Jacksonville State and Troy.
Jacksonville State will participate in the Hattiesburg Regional hosted by the No. 9 seed Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. Virginia and Little Rock are also included in the Hattiesburg Regional.
Troy will participate in the Gainesville Regional hosted by the No. 8 seed Florida Gators. Miami and Rider are the other two teams rounding out the Gainesville Regional.
