In a back-and-forth battle at Sewell-Thomas Stadium on Tuesday evening, the Alabama Crimson Tide held off a resilient Jacksonville State squad for a narrow 6–5 victory in a non-conference midweek matchup.
Alabama jumped out early with timely offense, striking quickly in the first inning. The Tide teed off on Gamecocks' pitching with an early lead that set the tone, but Jacksonville State refused to go quietly, answering with key hits throughout the contest to keep the game within reach.
After building an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, Jacksonville State clawed back multiple times, keeping the game close the entire time. A dramatic ninth inning saw the Gamecocks push the tying run into scoring position but the comeback fell short.
Bobby Alcock got the start on the mound for the Crimson Tide, allowing two earned runs on two hits in his three innings of work. Ashton Crowther pitched 2.1 innings in relief of a shutout ball to record the win. Hagan Banks pitched the final two innings to record his third save of the year.
Brady Neal sparked the Crimson Tide offense with a two-run home run in the first inning, finishing 1-for-3 with two RBI. Jason Torres also contributed two RBI with a RBI single in the first and a RBI double in the third.
With the win, Alabama improves to 10-3 on the season.
