The #20 Alabama basketball team extended its record to 2-0 with a 95-59 win over the Liberty Flames, preseason favorites to win the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Flames are the second team the Crimson Tide has faced this week that has been predicted to be their conference champions. The Flames kept the game close and competitive for the entire first half before the Alabama offense caught fire, outscoring Liberty 55-28 in the second half.
The Alabama offense was much improved from their last game, coming up just five points away from the century mark. After shooting just 10.7% from behind the arc against Longwood earlier in the week, the Crimson Tide came out ready to make a statement. Alabama shot 45.5% from behind the arc, going 10-22. The 3-point success was led by freshman Brandon Miller who hit four of his five attempts.
Junior transfer Mark Sears led Alabama in scoring with 22 points, nine of which came from behind the arc. Sears also contributed with eight rebounds and four assists.
True freshman Miller again showed why he was highly recruited with his second big game in a row. Miller finished the game with 20 points on the night and led the Crimson Tide in three-pointers. Miller also tied with Sears for a team-high eight rebounds to accompany his excellent offensive night.
Another freshman for Alabama, Rylan Griffen, had another solid game, and for the second game in a row, he led all bench scorers with 16 points.
Alabama will hope to keep the momentum going as they travel to South Alabama Tuesday for its first road game of the season.
