FAIRHOPE — The Eastern Shore Republican Women (ESRW) hosted a forum Thursday for candidates in Alabama’s Congressional District 1.

State Rep. Rhett Marques (R-Enterprise) and former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) answered questions about redistricting, the future of the U.S. Department of Education, school choice, Space Force and committee assignments.

Carl said his record in D.C. and experience make him the best choice for the job.

“The first congressional district deserves an experienced representative with conservative values to hold this seat,” Carl said.

Marques said after growing up in Spanish Fort and building his life in Enterprise, he has firsthand knowledge of the entire district, making him the best choice.

“There are different challenges for every section and I understand that,” Marques said. “I am uniquely qualified to handle that.”

Green Beret veteran Joshua McKee is also running to replace U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise). He was unable to attend the forum.

The forum was live-streamed and can be viewed below.
