The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals sided with the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s (AHSAA) ruling that Oakwood Adventist will be ineligible for the upcoming postseason.

Oakwood Adventist Academy was fined and placed on one-year probation for the boys’ varsity basketball program exceeding the maximum number of contests allowed in the regular season by one game. The school self-reported the violation. AHSAA also deemed the team ineligible for postseason play.

A Montgomery County Circuit judge ruled in favor of Oakwood on Tuesday and ordered them be put back in the playoffs. A Jackson County Circuit judge issued a conflicting order siding with the AHSAA.

Attorneys for Oakwood Adventist said in a recent lawsuit that the team played 31 games instead of the maximum 30 games during the season due to a “clerical error” and asked AHSAA to reconsider the punishment.

Heath Harmon, AHSAA executive director, said on Wednesday, “The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals has ruled 'The decision of the Alabama High School Athletic Association shall stand.' Therefore, Woodville High School and Ider High School will compete in the Class 1A, Area 16 Boys Basketball Tournament championship game tomorrow, February 12, 2026.”
