The State Democratic Executive Committee will hold a hearing on the outcome of the Democrat primary for Perry County Commission District.

Longtime Perry County District 1 Commissioner Albert Turner, Jr. narrowly lost re-election by one vote to Donald Bennett in the Democrat primary in May after provisional ballots were counted.

Bennett said on Facebook on Friday, “I want to provide you with an important update regarding the Democratic Primary Election for Perry County Commission District 1. On Thursday, June 4, 2026, I received official notification that a hearing has been scheduled for Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Alabama Democratic Conference, 424 S. Decatur Street, Montgomery, AL 36104, before the State Democratic Executive Committee Contest Committee.”

“I will be present at that hearing to present my position in full support of the certified results of the May 19, 2026 Democratic Primary election. I remain confident in the integrity of the Perry County Democratic Executive Committee and the process by which the results were properly certified,” Bennett said. “I also extend my full respect to the State Democratic Executive Committee and trust that this body will exercise its authority with integrity and in strict accordance with the rules of law governing this process. The people of District 1 spoke on May 19th. I remain committed to honoring your voices and to serving this community with the same dedication and purpose that led me to seek this office. Thank you for your continued prayers and support.”
