The Alabama Agricultural Development Authority (AADA) received a $15 million award from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) through the Meat and Poultry Intermediary Lending Program (MPILP) to expand meat production in the state.

The MPILP will provide loans to those starting or expanding slaughter and processing businesses in Alabama.

"Loans can be used to purchase or construct new facilities, expand existing facilities, purchase new equipment, cover start-up costs, and hire additional employees," according to the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries.

"I want to encourage business owners who are currently engaged in or thinking of starting to process meat (cattle, swine or poultry) to apply for this beneficial program," said Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate.

Applications for the low-interest loans are open until March 1, 2026, or the $15 million is loaned out, whichever happens first.
