Alabama drivers are starting to see price increases at the pump again as tensions between the United States and Iran intensify.
According to AAA, the average price of unleaded gasoline was $3.54 per gallon in Alabama on Wednesday. The average price of unleaded in Alabama was $3.46 one week ago, according to AAA. One month ago, the average price was $3.68. The average price was $2.77 one year ago.
“We’ve seen an increase at the wholesale level following the renewal of fighting over in the Middle East. Oil markets are worldwide and very volatile and very sensitive to things like that,” Bart Fletcher, president of the Petroleum and Convenience Marketers of Alabama, told 1819 News recently. “Unfortunately, any time there’s a little blip in what’s going on over in the Middle East that’s going to have an impact on the retail prices on the street. We hope that it kind of smooths out again but at this point it has ticked up just a little bit.”
The average price of diesel in Alabama was $4.66 per gallon, up from $4.49 a month ago.
The national average of unleaded gasoline on Wednesday was $3.89.
