The Alabama Grocers Association (AGA) endorsed Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate on Tuesday in his campaign for lieutenant governor in 2026.

Founded in 1990, AGA advocates for a business environment that creates, protects, and promotes the grocery industry across Alabama. Pate is term-limited from serving another term as agriculture commissioner.

“Commissioner Pate understands the role of the grocery industry and its importance to the economic development of the state of Alabama,” said Ellie Taylor, president of the Alabama Grocers Association. “State laws and regulations have a direct impact on our member companies, and I am confident he will continue to work with the grocery industry as a partner to strengthen businesses in Alabama.”

Pate recently announced he was seeking the Republican nomination to be Alabama’s next lieutenant governor. Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth is term-limited from running again in 2026.

“I am honored to receive the support of the Alabama Grocers Association. They have worked with me from the beginning to promote local food and businesses in our great state. Together, we’ve advocated for food safety while eliminating unnecessary barriers and regulations that hinder small business profitability. I look forward to continuing our partnership,” Pate said.

The AGA has more than 135 retail members operating more than 850 stores, as well as over 225 manufacturers, brokers, wholesalers, and other industry partners.
