The University of Alabama football team found itself at No. 8 in the first release of the 2023-2024 season's College Football Playoff (CFP) on Tuesday.
The Crimson Tide, 7-1 on the season and 5-0 in SEC play, were also ranked No. 8 in this week's Associated Press top 25 college football poll.
Alabama is set to face No. 14 LSU this Saturday at home in its biggest test remaining on the schedule. Should Alabama win out the rest of the regular season, it would likely face No. 2 Georgia, reigning back-to-back national champions, in the SEC Championship.
Eighth is the lowest the Tide have been ranked in the first playoff rankings since the CFP's debut in 2014.
Alabama has wins over No. 10 Ole Miss and No. 17 Tennessee. The Tide's only loss this season was against No. 7 Texas.
The top four teams in the country make the CFP. The top four ranked teams are currently No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Michigan and No. 4 Florida State.
