Alabama did what it was supposed to do against an overmatched opponent. The Crimson Tide dominated Utah State in Alabama’s 55-0 season-opening victory over the Aggies at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young accounted for 295 yards and six touchdowns before sitting down following the opening drive of the second half. Jermaine Burton and Traeshon Holden each had two touchdown receptions from Young. Jase McLellan caught a touchdown pass thrown by Young and another by Jalen Milroe. Young also had a 4-yard touchdown run on his last snap of the game.

Alabama built a 41-0 lead by halftime and coasted to the win. Jahmyr Gibbs was explosive in his debut in an Alabama uniform. The Georgia Tech transfer running back gained 93 yards on nine carries and had one catch for 55 yards. His 58-yard run set up Young’s touchdown run.

Eleven different Crimson Tide players caught at least one pass, with Burton, Holden and Kobe Prentice sharing team-high honors with five catches each.

Alabama outgained Utah State, 559-136, with the Aggies not breaking the 100-yard mark until the fourth quarter. The Crimson Tide had five tackles for loss but did not have a sack. Linebacker Jaylen Moody had six tackles, a tackle for loss and quarterback hurry. Brian Branch and Will Anderson Jr. each had five tackles, and Anderson added a tackle for loss and quarterback hurry.
