Former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl leads State Rep. Rhett Marques (R-Enterprise) 25.2% to 9.2% in the Republican primary for Congressional District 1, according to The Alabama Poll.

The poll released this week showed that 56.8% of voters are still undecided. Joshua McKee is in third with 8.8%.

“This race presents a rare combination: a frontrunner with catastrophic hidden vulnerabilities and an electorate primed for an outsider alternative. Jerry Carl's 16-point initial lead masks fundamental weaknesses that will be exposed in any contested primary environment,” a spokesperson for The Alabama Poll said.

The poll surveyed 400 likely Republican voters on January 23 with a margin of error of +/- 4.9%.
