The Alabama Port Authority will finally receive the $38 million it has been waiting for since 2021.
The Biden administration promised the funds, and now, the Trump administration is removing roadblocks, including DEI and Green New Deal regulations, to get them.
“The Port is grateful to have the Administration’s support as we work together to implement real infrastructure that moves commerce,” said Alabama Port Authority director and CEO John Driscoll.
The Transportation Demonstration Program grant will improve access between the marine terminal and the intermodal container transfer terminals. It will also provide drainage and horizontal improvements for future developments.
“This project will connect the Port’s container terminal to our rail facility in Mobile, providing on-dock rail access, allowing cargo to efficiently reach the vast majority of the U.S. in as little as three days,” Driscoll added.
The grant is one of three maritime administration grants backlogged by the Biden administration. U.S. DOT Secretary Sean Duffy announced this week that 180 infrastructure grants will be fast-tracked.
“The previous administration turned the Department of Transportation into the Department of Woke," Duffy said. "I’ve focused the Department on what matters; safety, making travel great again, and building big, beautiful infrastructure projects. The American people have zero interest in millions of their tax dollars funding research on the intersection of gender non-conforming people and infrastructure inequality or whether road improvement projects are racist."
