Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard addressed his teammates during a Sunday meeting and apologized for a remark he made on Saturday about Wisconsin’s “Jump Around” tradition.
After the Crimson Tide's 42-10 victory over the Badgers, Bernard told reporters, "Honestly, we had a tough week of practice listening to that jump song. We were ready to shut that weak-ass jump song down.”
During Monday's press conference, Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer shared that Bernard had talked to him about his remark concerning the Badgers' tradition. DeBoer praised the former Washington receiver as a "first-class guy" and noted that Bernard took the initiative to address the team about his comment.
"He actually wanted to say something to the team," DeBoer said. "We want to be first class, and we slipped up a little bit there, and he addressed the team yesterday in our team meeting, and everyone knows who Germ is and respects the heck out of him."
Last week, Alabama practiced with amplified crowd noise in preparation for the challenging atmosphere at Wisconsin's home stadium. Several players commented on the environment and how the crowd noticeably thinned out as Alabama took a commanding 35-10 lead heading into the final quarter. Some Alabama players even participated in the "Jump Around" tradition when House of Pain's song played before the start of the fourth quarter.
"I think our guys enjoyed that transition there between the third and fourth quarter just as much as anyone," DeBoer said. "So, nothing but respect for what the environment was and who they are as a program."
Alabama does not have a game scheduled for this week but will host No. 2 Georgia on September 28 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
