Despite being idle, the University of Alabama football team rose a spot in this week's Associated Press top 25 college football poll.

The Crimson Tide are now ranked No. 8 heading into a top 15 matchup at home versus No. 13 LSU.

Should Alabama take care of LSU, the Crimson Tide will be poised to have the chance to make another College Football Playoff appearance. The Tide will have to play a tough Kentucky team and play at rival Auburn, a place that has given head coach Nick Saban problems in the past, and then likely beat No. 1 Georgia in the SEC Championship.

Winning the SEC would almost guarantee the Tide one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff.

Alabama still sits just one spot behind its only loss so far this season, No. 7 Texas.

The top four spots in the poll remain unchanged from last week with No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Ohio State and No. 4 Florida State.

Alabama and LSU kick off on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. The game will broadcast on CBS.

ESPN will host its "College Gameday" live from Tuscaloosa on Saturday morning.

No other teams from Alabama made the AP top 25.
