The Alabama Supreme Court ordered the State’s execution of Geoffrey Todd West, who murdered a woman in 1997.
West was convicted of capital murder for the killing of gas station attendant Margaret Parrish Berry. Berry was shot in the back of the head while lying in the prone position during a robbery.
West, who was formerly employed at Harold’s Chevron, where the murder occurred, stole, $250 from a cookie can where the store’s money was kept.
Court documents show West was convicted by a jury of his peers, who voted 10 to 2 in favor of the death penalty. Etowah County Circuit Judge William Cardwell accepted the sentence.
The sentencing time frame was set earlier this year to begin at midnight on September 25 and end at 6 a.m. on September 26.
The execution will take place at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore.
