Alabama Veteran, a non-profit organization based out of Birmingham, honored fallen military veterans on Memorial Day weekend from the Gulf Coast.
"As we gather with loved ones this Memorial Day weekend, let's pause to honor the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom," a statement from Alabama Veteran stated. "These heroes, including many from our Alabama communities, gave their lives so we could live in peace and security."
The organization said Memorial Day is about more than barbecues and a day off. They said it's about remembering the courage and selflessness of the fallen and remembering the sacrifices made by their families.
A day of remembrance was held at the Gulf Coast Silkies Ruck in Orange Beach.
