MONTGOMERY — Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen convened a meeting of the electors for the 2024 general election where nine electors on Tuesday cast their votes for Donald Trump for president and JD Vance for vice president.
The electors meeting takes place on the first Tuesday after the second Wednesday in December after the general election. Each state’s electors meet across the country where they cast their votes for president and vice president on separate ballots. It is part of our nation’s Electoral College process.
Alabama’s 2024 presidential electors were Bill Harris, Renee Gentle Powers, Jacquelyn Gay, Mike Dean, State Sen. Lance Bell (R-Pell City), Bonnie Sachs, James Hanes, Jr., Chris Brown and Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate.
“It is a privilege to be tasked with convening the Meeting of the Electors under state and federal law. I am thankful for a successful meeting and to be able to officially say that all nine of Alabama’s electoral votes have been cast for President-Elect Trump and Vice-President Elect Vance,” Allen said. “Today, the results of November 5, 2024’s fair, secure, and transparent election have been officially commemorated by the nine electoral votes cast by Alabama’s Electors.”
Governor Kay Ivey said at the meeting, “There are some in our country who seek to abolish the Electoral College to undermine the votes of folks in states like ours.’
“But I say the Electoral College is vital to protect the character of our nation,” she added.
