The #18 Alabama Crimson Tide remained undefeated after beating the South Alabama Jaguars 65-55 in their first road game of the season. This was the second game in a two-for-one series between the two teams. Last season Alabama came away victorious against South Alabama in Coleman Coliseum and will return there next season to complete the series.
South Alabama kept it close for a half as they went into halftime trailing the Crimson Tide by 10 points, and that would be the difference in the game, as the length of Alabama was too much for the Jaguars. Alabama had a tough night shooting and was not very protective of the ball, as they turned it over 21 times. Despite the poor shooting and the sloppy play, Alabama dominated the rebounding category 63-40, with 25 of the 63 rebounds being offensive, which was the difference in the game.
Once again, Brandon Miller led Alabama in scoring with 19 points, 12 coming from behind the arc. Miller also contributed eight rebounds, just two rebounds short of a double-double.
Freshman Noah Clowney led all players with 15 rebounds, also contributing 8 points, just 2 points shy of a double-double.
Halfway through the second half, Jahvon Quinerly checked into the game for Alabama. Quinerly appears to be way ahead of schedule in his recovery as he saw his first bit of action since tearing his ACL back on March 18th during the NCAA tournament last season. The Crimson Tide will be excited to get him back at 100% as he will be a help to the shooting woes and will help this young team with ball security.
Alabama will return to Coleman Coliseum Friday to host Jacksonville State, another in-state opponent.
