Alabama teams can win national championships in fields other than football and basketball. This week's winner was in the field of academics.
Cullman County’s West Point High School won the 2025 Small School National Championship Tournament.
The prestigious “National Scholars Bowl” has been ongoing since 1999. It was held this year at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Chicago from April 25 to 27. The West Point ‘Warriors’ ended their competition with a 17-2 win/loss record for 89.5%, which led over second-place Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, with 88.9%.

Under Coach Lee Henry, West Point High School has been a force to be reckoned with in Alabama and nationally in the Scholars Bowl. They placed second in the nation in 2024.
