An Alabaster man has been convicted of multiple sex offenses against a minor after being found in a 12-year-old girl's bed in Tennessee and then threatening to kill her family upon being discovered by the child's mother.
Omar Malik Lundy, 30, is now facing up to 37 years in prison after being found guilty by a jury of attempted rape of a child, assault, two counts of aggravated assault, and solicitation of a minor to commit rape of a child.
According to authorities, evidence in the trial showed that Lundy had posed as a 15-year-old boy and initiated contact with the victim through YouTube by posting a "flattering comment" on one of her videos.
Following the first interaction, Lundy and the child began messaging "regularly" online and via text. Lundy then reportedly began sexually grooming the child and pressured her multiple times to meet. The girl eventually provided her address to Lundy, who drove 4.5 hours from Alabaster on Labor Day Weekend in 2024 to meet the child, hiding in her closet and bedroom.
Lundy, who was discovered by the girl's mother hours after his arrival, threatened to kill the family and himself with a handgun in his possession. A male relative was able to knock the gun out of Lundy's hand, subduing him until Sumner County Sheriff's deputies arrived.
Thomas Dean, District Attorney General of Sumner County, issued a statement on social media announcing the conviction.
"This is a shocking case involving a 30-year-old man's prolonged efforts to sexually groom and rape a child through lies, manipulation, and technology," Dean said.
"Even more disturbing is the fact that Lundy was able to gain the victim's trust by convincing her that he was 15 years old, which was half of his actual age," he continued. "Thankfully, the quick response of Sumner County Sheriff's Office Deputies Perry Couch, Gabriel Yap, and Lt. Sam Radtke prevented an extremely dangerous situation from ending tragically and the deputies' thorough efforts to gather evidence substantially assisted my office's efforts to hold Mr. Lundy accountable for his crimes. "
"Mr. Lundy's outrageous conduct will not be tolerated in Sumner County and my office will seek the maximum sentence allowed by law for his crimes," added Dean.
Following Lundy's arrest, officers searched his property and found knives, electrical tape, multiple gun magazines and body armor.
A Circuit Court judge has revoked Lundy's bond and ordered that he be held in the Sumner County Jail without bail.
Lundy's sentencing hearing is set for January 28, 2026.
